R&D partnerships

日日夜夜撸 Boosting innovation with collaborative research

Air Liquide's R&D builds and maintains long-term relationships based on scientific excellence, trust, complementarity, and diversity.

Scientific excellence.?Being connected to the best scientific ecosystems strengthens our leadership in our molecule territory allows us to address challenges facing society and bring value to our customers.

Trust.?Mutual trust is a fundamental component of establishing long-term partnerships and sharing common views and goals.

Complementarity.?Expertise and complementary know-how enriches partners by encouraging them to share scientific and technological innovations, develop new business cases, and understand the major scientific and environmental challenges.

Diversity.?Today, key innovations come from all geographies and are often the result of multidisciplinary approaches based on very diverse scientific knowledge and cultures.

Collaborative research and?projects

Pooling efforts with partners all along the value chain is one factor of success for open innovation. Air Liquide is proactive in ?innovation ecosystems across North America, Asia, and Europe, leading or being a key player in consortium projects. By participating in worldwide programs (H2020, DOE, NEDO..), we can leverage and accelerate our own innovation and develop new market offers.

日日夜夜撸 Within Europe, Air Liquide is a member of:

  • EIT Health, a Knowledge Innovation Community co-funded by the European Union. The 130 partners promote entrepreneurship and innovations for healthy living and active aging.
  • The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU), a public/private partnership that supports research, technological development, and demonstration activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe.
  • Since mid-2018, Air Liquide R&D has been a member of Climate KIC. Through this membership, ?Air Liquide can share and develop its climate change-related strategy and innovations.

Scientific challenge

Through these Challenges, Air Liquide has identified ?researchers who have made scientific breakthroughs in areas, defined by the Group, that can be transformed into sustainable technologies through long-term partnerships. These scientific challenges, known as the #2018AirLiquideScientificChallenge, develop our scientific knowledge in essential small molecules and help prepare for the Group's future technologies.

Projects highlights

North America

  • (USA): Air Liquide is collaborating with Princeton University to develop methodologies to optimize our energy consumption and nomination, considering renewable energies.?
  • (USA) :?Air Liquide joined a consortium composed of academic and Industrial partners for the development of Oxy-Fuel combustion in turbine with CO2 dilution for supercritical CO2 based power cycles.
  • (USA): Air liquide is partnering with White Dog Labs to explore new uses of hydrogen and Syngas in synthetic biology for the transformation of CO2 and biomass into valuable fuels and chemicals.

Asia

  • ?(Japan): Air Liquide researchers are working at Kyoto University in the area of Materials Science on nanoporous adsorbents such as MOFs for gas storage and separation applications.
  • (Shanghai, China) and R&D are exploring new ways of reducing the CO2 footprint by converting hot CO2 emitted by glass furnaces into useful fuel.

Europe

  • ?(Nancy, France): Air Liquide and the Laboratoire Réactions et Génie des Procédés have joined forces to create a joint laboratory focusing on the development of new sustainable technologies for the production of gases.
  • (France):?Air Liquide is supporting the development of innovative analysis technology and partnering with APIX to adapt this new technology to our applications.
  • (France):?Within the framework of the Strategic Agreement signed in 2014, 8 collaborative projects have been launched, associating CEA expertise in robotics, material modeling, sensors, and hydrogen systems with Air Liquide’s expertise in Industrial & Medical gas systems.
  • (France):?Air Liquide is a founding member of the Institut Photovolta?que Fran?ais (IPVF), a multi-partner organization that brings together academic researchers and industrial players to conduct research, innovate, and provide training in the field of photovoltaics.
